Container delivery · Junction Hill NSW 2460

Shipping containers Junction Hill

Semi-rural blocks a few minutes north of Grafton, where most properties have the room a container wants and none of the constraints the old town centre imposes. It is one of the easier delivery areas we cover and one where people routinely buy the size they actually need rather than the size that will fit down the drive.

Why containers turn up on Junction Hill blocks

In and around Junction Hill the containers mostly go to machinery, fodder and tool storage on the acreage blocks, workshop overflow for trades operating from home on a larger lot, storage for horse and livestock gear, and a lot of 40ft units bought by people who started out asking about a 20ft. Different jobs, same conversation: which grade, what size, and whether your ground and your approach suit a tilt-tray, a sidelifter or a crane.

Where the 40ft argument gets won

In Grafton proper the size decision is usually made by the driveway. Out here it is made by the price, and the price argues for the 40ft. Twice the length for nowhere near twice the money means the cost per cubic metre is dramatically better, and on a block with room there is no counter-argument except the one about repositioning it later.

The honest counterweight is that twelve metres is a fixed decision. Work out which way the doors face and where you will approach from before the truck is booked, because turning a 40ft around afterwards is a second crane hire, not a favour. Everything else about the maths favours the bigger unit — the numbers are on the 40ft page.

Siting a container on a semi-rural block

Give it airflow and give it drainage. The temptation is to tuck a container in behind a shed or under a tree where it is out of sight, and both of those choices shorten its life — shade stops the roof drying, and leaf litter in the corner castings holds water against steel. Out in the open it looks less tidy and lasts considerably longer.

Block it up properly on the four corner castings with pavers, sleepers or blocks, and check it with a level before the truck leaves. Sitting a container flat on grass traps moisture underneath and rots the floor bearers from below, which is the failure we see most often on rural blocks and the easiest one to avoid.

Getting a truck in around Junction Hill

This is straightforward country to deliver into and the reason is space. Most Junction Hill blocks have a driveway long enough to line a truck up on and somewhere flat and open to set a container down, which means a sidelifter can do its work and a 40ft is a realistic option rather than an aspiration. Two things still catch people. The first is that a long unsealed driveway on a semi-rural block is a different surface at each end — firm gravel near the road, softer and more chewed up nearer the house or the shed — and the soft bit is usually where you want the container. The second is that open ground invites people to nominate a spot a long way from anything, which is fine until you remember the truck has to reach it and the ground between here and there has never carried anything heavier than a ride-on.

Wherever you are, the vehicle wants the same basics — a surface that will not give way, an unobstructed approach and nothing over the placement point. Pictures of the gateway and the intended spot answer nearly every question we would otherwise ask. More in getting a container onto your block.

Junction Hill — common questions

Can you get a 40ft container onto a Junction Hill acreage block?

Usually yes, and this is one of the better areas for it. A sidelifter wants roughly thirty metres of working room and ground firm enough to take the legs. Most blocks here have the room; the question is the surface where you want it placed, particularly after rain.

Is delivery to Junction Hill much dearer than Grafton?

No. It is about ten kilometres from the yard and it is a short, easy run. Cartage is quoted with the container so you will see one delivered number rather than working it out yourself.
